One Billion Rising 2014, me hosting

narration:

theater, vocal painting:

what drives me

I love what lies between the notes, the unpredictable, the uncontrolled, the unconscious, the secret, the profound. My work explores the space, within and around us, where voice is not merely expression, but speaks its own language. Illuminating our (un)depths. At the very least, addressing us. Offering light. Guiding hope. Where sound tells its own stories.

I work in:

  • Contemporary polyphonic vocal music, inspired by Renaissance sounds, Philip Glass, and the blurring of vocal boundaries.
  • Gingjer Jazz, a space where my voice revels in the familiar, fragile and powerful at the same time.
  • Sound experiments and performance art, where voice becomes body, where listening becomes part of the artwork.
  • Theater & interdisciplinary projects, when voice transcends the musical and becomes part of the visual, narrative world.
  • Photography & visual art, because sound can be not only audible but also visible. I perform in solo and collaborative projects, on stages and in installations, in the studio and in the moment.

Without art? The world would be unbearable for me.

music

WingWhisperer goes ænee

Polyphonic contemporary vocal music, a little bit of Philip Glass, little bit of early renaissance, experimental, performative loop station music written and performed by me, Julia Döbele the WingWhisperer. ænee is my self designed word, that puts in a nutshell, what my ‘intellectual prayers’ are about: It is borrowed from the Finish word ääni which has several meanings:

voice, sound, tone, noise, sonance, resonance, the vote (in elections), reverberation, vibration, opinions, volume
with two ii, as in äänii, it means: vote!, he:she votes and ääne means: (web) domain. It is pronounced: aene, like the first ‚e‘ ‚ in „every“, long ‚e‘.

My ‘Intellectual Prayers’ are a strong invitation to get nitty gritty with the Devine and serious about compassion. Pieces of the show:

  • #GoodBadBetter asks how good and bad “work”, what our relationship is and how easily we know…one hour “ride”

  • radical love expands on the question what a world filled with hate needs, and how to go about it.

The ænee prespective is open to colaborate with artists from many trades, let me know, if you are interested. ‘Do not algorithm me’ is one past collab.

Whatever you seek, be sure, that any WingWhisperer ænee creation past or future, is nothing for the faint of heart and very much for people who desire and need to feel deeply. Cuz music is yes, a great way to get oneself into a better mood, but it also has the power to transform us. To come into our power. The latter most surely is why the WingWhisperer goes ænee.

WhingWhisperer goes Gingjer Jazz

Gingjer, is my old nickname, when I was 5 years old and  went to school with Jude Law.

We do sophisticated elevator jazz, standards and pop in that well known comfortable bar piano feeling. relaxing, emotional and with a good whiskey sour in hand. We’d love to play at your party, a couch concert or opening. Give me a holler, and I’ll check, if our calendars can accommodate you.

Greater Stuttgart area.

photography - I firmly believe that beauty resides in every person.

I’ve been taking photos since I was a teenager. My father is a cameraman and photographer, and one of the things we bonded on was that he introduced me to photography at an early age. Of course, typical for my generation, I learned with black and white photography and spent a night or two in the darkroom. I certainly never lived up to my father’s expectations, but I’ve always enjoyed photographing people. I like to see the beauty in people.

So, my “hobby,” which I shared for a long time with my little Minox 35 EL, was a way for me to connect with people and keep their memories alive. I moved around a lot, cross-continentally, as a child and teenager. Photography was my tool to cope with the pain of saying goodbye and the relationships. Farewells happened frequently and regularly, and taking countless photos was a nice way to deal with my feelings. For the yearbook in my senior year, I was, of course, not only on the yearbook staff team but also the yearbook photographer. A few years later, I taught analog black and white photography to boys aged 11-14 at a youth summer camp. Little did I know at the time what a trailblazer I was. A woman teaching boys a “technical” skill and showing them how to use developing chemicals. We practiced composition and observation, training our eye.

Later, after my studies with a minor in art, I completed a multi media design schooling , and photography (albeit primarily moving images) returned to my life, this time professionally. Even though I rarely practiced the profession after my schooling (though I had worked in it for 10 years ;-)), and when I did, it was as a sound engineer, photography remained a constant companion.

For several years now, I’ve been photographing fellow musicians at performances or taking promotional photos for them. Since becoming a mentor, helping people to tap into their inner strength, I’ve rediscovered photography as a tool that can show us how beautiful we are.

My father once told me, “If you want to take beautiful portraits, you have to love the person the moment you press the shutter.” This description is so apt, and I’ve never forgotten it. Today, I know how powerful and true this attitude is. Now I use portrait photography to show my clients how beautiful they are. Because I firmly believe that beauty resides in every person. You just have to see it and press the shutter. That’s essentially my job.

Feel free to get in touch if you’d like to book a photo session with me to discover, rediscover, or simply celebrate your outer beauty!

Since I myself don’t represent “conventionally beautiful” beauty standards, and have dealt with significant health issues over the years, I am especially open to all those who don’t fit into these narrow societal beauty standards and categories. Hit me up! And if you want to know when there are discounts for photo sessions with me, sign up for my newsletter!

graphics - I simply enjoy working with color & form

I’ve been doing graphics for ages, whether it was messing around with Letraset in the 80s, then editing for the yearbook in high school, and of course, websites for over 20 years.

  • I first learned about Flash animations with Adobe Dreamweaver, but never used them on my websites; I always found them a bit annoying.
  • I’ve been using WordPress for over 20 years.
  • My programming is very minimal; I prefer to leave that to others.

In the early 2000s, I was one of the first to do CD-ROM authoring, and of course, I also handled the design, from video to cover art, back then for ‘Das Werk Ludwigsburg’. I’ve worked with 3D animation, flyers, and I’m a trained media designer specializing in image and sound. I’ve also been doing graphics for social media for many years. I’m often asked who does my graphic design? I do. And recently, I’ve also started doing graphic design for others. Maybe for you?

I can’t wait to help your social media shine and truly reflect your style!

performance/theater

My heart truly belongs on the stage. Stepping into a role, I come alive, I bloom and feel completely in my element. While I love hosting events, I’m especially drawn to experimental music theater and performance art, where creativity knows no bounds.

If you’d like to collaborate, you can count on me to bring authenticity, dedication, and reliability to every project. I’m also a strong team player and thrive in collaborative settings. Though I don’t have formal acting training, I was lucky to begin acting as a child in films, learning invaluable lessons along the way, you can even spot me in a horror short film I appeared in at age six.

My performances are rooted in a blend of applied vocal physiology, somatic bodywork, embodiment, and emotional engagement, drawing from approaches similar to Method Acting or the Chekhov technique. Here’s a short excerpt from a performance I gave in 2016.

I’m always thrilled by new projects and would love to explore what we could create together when my schedule allows!

Panel Discussion: On Life and Death in Culture and Media

Moderated & Hosted by: Julia Döbele
Five Stories from the Cultural Sector, June 6, 2014, at JUST Calver Passage, Stuttgart
Together with JUST, I cordially invite you to join a conversation with five representatives of the cultural sector. What infrastructure governs the lives of artists? What role do cultural funding, copyright, and the German Social Security Fund for Artists (KSK) play? What value do we place on artistic creation? What might the future hold, and how can we assess the current reality of survival? The five panelists will be joined by other expert guests, such as representatives from the Pop Office Baden-Württemberg, the Württemberg Art Association, and the Baden-Württemberg Association of Composers. Everyone who lives and works with and from art, everyone involved in Stuttgart’s cultural scene, all cultural professionals, and of course, their friends are warmly invited! Following the guest presentations, there will be time for discussion and questions on the topic.

Guests: Markus Hassold, drummer, producer, and lawyer, Stuttgart, Matthias Hornschuh, composer for film, TV, radio, and theater, Cologne, founder of the professional association mediamusic e.V., lecturer Andreas Hykade, Animated film director, including for Film Bilder, numerous awards, lecturer at various universities, including the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy and Harvard University, Markus Rennhack, guitarist of the band ‘unloved’, employee of KickTheFlame music publishing, political scientist, Leipzig, Diethard Sohn, painter, Stuttgart, created his own unique style, Comic Cubism, from the early 1990s onwards, member of the Baden-Württemberg Association of Visual Artists

Peepshow Voice, Performance & Installation
Authenticity Training for Spectators: An Insightful Event with Julia Döbele & Guests. Real, authentic, genuine—that’s what we “should” be. The voice offers an enormous canvas and experiential space for what everyone is searching for: absolute individuality. Playfully and with humor, seriously and with persistence, I work here in a peepshow format and guide you through the vocal jungle. Since one-on-one work usually takes place in a familiar setting, this group session offers very private insights into the topic of authenticity—a glimpse into the voice expedition.

For Ulrich Schmidt: For one week, the seemingly idyllic planning office of Stuttgart will be reinvented. The guiding principles are both the wishes of Stuttgart’s citizens and utopian project sketches from renowned architectural firms, created in response to worldwide competitions. The overarching theme is the balance between culture, commerce, and climate.

June 5, 2014, 9:30 p.m.
Drawings and paintings of Stuttgart views will be adapted to reflect these visions. There are green facades, hanging gardens, daycare centers with animals on roofs, studios in the castle, streets reserved for bicycles and pedestrians, schools and housing for refugees are being built, etc.
